Two well-defined programs have existed for six years at Benito Juarez High School to enhance the educational achievements of Latino youth. These same programs and services were implemented at North Grand High School in the 2006-07 school year. The Parent Involvement Program seeks to increase student awareness, knowledge, and confidence by promoting freshman academic success through informed parent involvement, and the Early Intervention Program, which is collaboration between school administrators, and teachers who work with enrolled at-risk freshmen students who are failing their course work.

The Parent Involvement Program seeks to increase student awareness, knowledge, and confidence by promoting freshman academic success through informed parent involvement, encouraging parents to become active and informed advocates for their children’s education.
The Early Intervention Program targets students at risk of dropping out, and along with teachers and parents, works with students to accept responsibility for their academic standing and find solutions to the challenges they face. More of a focus is placed on the individual student. Parents are engaged and used as part of the support and monitoring system to help keep their enrolled high-risk students in school and on track for graduation. This program provides coaching services to address the underlying issues behind academic under performance such as failing course work, absenteeism, and truancy. Staff members work hand-in-hand with school personnel so that freshman students can be identified early then interventions beginning with student meetings, grade monitoring, follow-up meetings, parent conferences, Parent -Teacher Conferences, tutoring referrals, enrollment in evening school when possible and summer school enrollment, if warranted, are instituted.
